PIANIST
Austin Lu is a 16-year-old musician. His passion for music began when he was just two and a half years old, and he started the Suzuki violin program at Classical Music Conservatory in Toronto. Since then, he has excelled in both the violin and piano. He passed the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) level one with first-class honor when he was only five years old!
After moving to New York, Austin continued his studies with Arlene Portney and participated in the American Fine Art Festival competition in the spring of 2017, where he won an honor prize in his age group. Austin continued to excel and passed RCM level 8 with First Class Honor. He received a score of 100 in the NYSSMA level 6 piano festival and was one of 12 kids attending the piano showcase in 2019. In the same year, he also received 1st prize for “AFAF's International Competition Golden Era of Romantic Music 2019” in the 11-14 age group. Later, Austin auditioned for the pre-college program at the Manhattan Music School, and started studying with Miyoko Lotto.
Austin was admitted to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) Youth Symphony when he was only nine years old, becoming the youngest member of the Chamber Orchestra. He even had the opportunity to perform with his Orchestra at the Stern Auditorium/ Perelman Stage of Carnegie Hall in 2016! After NJSO, Austin continued his studies at the School for String in NYC, studying with Alexander Yudkovsky.
Austin is also an active member of his high school's band, playing mallet percussion and keyboard. He plans to extend his passion for music into his future college life.
