Yiqun Zhao 🇺🇸 USA
FLAUTIST
Yiqun Zhao is a New York based flutist and data scientist. She is a winner of the 2021 New York Flute Fair Masterclass Competition for non-professional musicians. She currently serves as a Board of Director of New York Flute Club and is a committee member in the National Flute Association’s Performance Health Care Committee. As a soloist, Yiqun has performed at venues including Merkin Concert Hall, DiMenna Center for Classical Music, National Opera Center, and Broadway Presbyterian Church. She performed in masterclasses with John Bailey, Carol Wincenc, and Angeleita Floyd.
Yiqun is passionate about inspiring people in her community with music. She regularly performs classical music for preschools in the classroom, online, or at the park. She was the top winner of her employer’s first in-house talent show among 15,000 people in 2020. Yiqun also plays in the Alaria adult chamber music ensemble and New York Flute Club ensemble. Her profile was featured in New York Flute Club’s newsletter in February 2021. Yiqun is currently studying with Nicolas Duchamp and Yevgeny Faniuk. Her former teacher includes Bo Ren and Weimin Shao.
Yiqun holds a masters’ degree in statistics from Harvard University and was one of the 8 merit-based commencement marshals among 1,000 graduates. Yiqun also holds a bachelors’ degree in mathematics from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where she was the valedictorian of her class. She also studied at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. Yiqun currently works as a data science manager in a multi-national technology consulting firm and she specializes in financial services and risk management. She is a Certified ScrumMaster.
